Before there was Facebook, Instagram, or even MySpace, NYC nightclubs had a home online. The MOTHERBOARDS were founded in 2001 by Nightlife Empress Chi Chi Valenti as a replacement for her experimental club MOTHER (1996-2000). The "Mboards" were inspired by the pioneering virtual communities ECHONYC and The WELL.
In the early to late Oughts (pre social media) the boards became an important tool for club promotion and recording nocturnal herstory. By the Teens they had become a storehouse for club memories, elegies and myths. As the boards celebrate a quarter century, Factory folk will gather at Gotham's newest independent enclave B SCENE for readings and dancing.
