Film Screening - We're So Dead!

50 Avenue B
between 3rd & 4th Streets
in the East Village!

Join The Bitchy Waiter for a screening of his movie We're So Dead. He's working on having it screened at bars and restaurants in all 50 states. We are super excited to host his first NYC screening! With a personal appearance!

Doors at 6 to meet the man himself!
Free screening at 7.
Hang out after to "network" with fellow industry humans.
Reserve your ticket HERE!

Darron Cardosa is The Bitchy Waiter.

In 2008, he started a blog as a way to release the frustrations that come with being in the world of food service. Writing stories on the Internet about annoying customers was better than poking the annoying customers in their eyes with forks.

Today, he is the voice for restaurant workers around the world, saying out loud what most people in the restaurant industry are only allowed to think.

He lives and works in New York City and enjoys The Brady Bunch, The Facts of Life and cocktails almost as much as he hates your baby.

Ken MacLaughlin | Director / Content Creator

Ken MacLaughlin is a self-made filmmaker and storyteller who began creating short films and comedy content in 2009. With no formal film school training, he learned by doing, writing, directing, and producing his own projects that combined humor, honesty, and character-driven storytelling.

As one half of the creative duo Decent Humans, Ken developed original series and sketches that explored the awkward edges of everyday life. He created Shift Drinks Comedy, a project dedicated to the absurdities of nightlife and socializing, and The Worst Couple, a series that mined relationship chaos for laughs and insight. Ken also co-manages the Bitchy Waiter Facebook page, helping shape it into a sharp, irreverent voice for service industry life.

After nearly two decades waiting tables, he draws heavily from that experience in his writing and direction. The unpredictability, emotion, and human connection of restaurant work continue to shape his storytelling.

His approach to filmmaking is very collaborative. He invites people to experiment and to fail and to find the humor and human moments in both. His work focuses on flawed characters, honest humor, and the moments where ordinary people reveal something true about themselves.

We’re So Dead is his feature film debut.

An Evening of Avant-Garde Text & Music

Join your host, Jeffrey Wengrofsky, for an evening of avant-garde text and music, featuring Free Jazz, Angular Atonality, Surrealist Storytelling, Poetry, Glitter, and the Absurd.

Text/Vocal Performance: JENNIFER ROBIN, NIKOLA PEPERA, JEFFREY WENGROFSKY, and CHRIS TANNER

Music: REG BLOOR, AYUMI ISHITO with DANIEL CARTER

The Musicians:

Legendary New York Avant-Metal guitarist Reg Bloor has released three instrumental solo records: “Viewer Discretion Is Not Advised,” “Sensory Irritation Chamber,” and “Theme from an Imaginary Slasher.” Bloor has performed at the Red Bull Music Academy New York Festival, the OFF Festival, and Basilica Drone. She has been a long-time member of the Glenn Branca Ensemble and founder of the Paranoid Critical Revolution. Bloor’s work features an innovative mix of frantic No Wave, Out Jazz, and screechy Metal. Her inventive chords, angular atonality, and groundbreaking techniques—not to mention her impish sense of humor—have been an unsung influence on two generations of New York experimental guitarists. Her work can be explored at https://regbloor.com/

Ayumi Ishito was born and raised in Ishikawa, Japan. At the age of 19, she began playing tenor saxophone in a college big band at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. She went on to study performance and composition at Berkee College of Music in Boston and moved to New York in 2010. Ishito’s project, The Spacemen, was selected for the “Best Jazz of 2021” on Bandcamp. As a composer, Ishito has been leading her quintet since 2011 and performing her compositions. The band released two albums, “View From A Little Cave” in 2016, and “Midnite Cinema” in 2019.

Daniel Carter is an American Free Jazz musician who plays saxophone, trumpet, and flute. He has recorded and performed with William Parker, Federico Ughi, DJ Logic, The Negatones, Thurston Moore, Yo La Tengo, Soul-Junk, Anne Waldman, Cooper-Moore, Matthew Shipp and scientist/musician Matthew Putman, among others. He is a member of the groups Test, Other Dimensions In Music, odon, Ghost Moth and Dissipated Face. In 2007, the Pendu Sound compilation album, “Getting Rid of the Glue,” with Excepter and Daniel Carter, was listed as number 70 in Thurston Moore’s “Top 80 of 2006.” In 2015, the New York Forward Festival was created to celebrate Carter’s 70th birthday.

WORD MANIA AND THE UNCLASSIFIABLE:

Jennifer Robin is RAW POWER. She has been performing at open mics and with experimental musicians since she was 17, including collaborations with the Dead Air Fresheners and Spirit Duplicator. Her work has been published by PLAZM, Hobart, Five2One, Vlad Mag, Counterpunch, Ladybox, and King Shot. She is author of the ‘stand-up tragedy’ Death Confetti (Feral House), a book of American self-immolation, Earthquakes in Candyland (Fungasm), and the dream reportage of You Only Bend Once with a Spoonful of Mercury (Far West). Vignettes about nuns, French swingers, and her mother feature in There Must Be an Invisible Leash, out on Future Tense in late 2024. Robin’s 2025 Oblique Strategies release—The Ballad of Ecto-Five—is an ‘erotic novel of mad science’ featuring Mother Earth’s Avenger and his girl gang.

Nikola Pepera, the last of the Haight Ashbury Butterflies. A former peach farmer and a former lithium dealer. A degenerate beatnik who once smoked tree moss. A notorious recluse who hid her surrealist paintings of psychedelic prostitutes and acid poetry under her bed until last summer. After hitchhiking her way down the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Cruz, she landed in Hollywood around the corner from Jim Morrison's last American home. She is the singer and lyricist of her ‘supergroupe’ Chippy & Thee Psychedelic Dirtbags. Lay Down & Get Lost is her first book.

Jeffrey Wengrofsky is the author of The Wolfboy of Rego Park (Far West) and is the host of The Metropolis Literary Salon, a monthly event at TV Eye. He is curator of the Secrets Film Festivals, an annual, thematic festival at Film Noir Cinema in Brooklyn. Wengrofsky’s short documentaries have screened at many festivals and will next be on exhibit at the Eastside Cinema in Austin, Texas.

Chris Tanner is a New York City-based artist and performer, best known for his assemblages made from glitter, palettes, jewels, sterling silver leaf and found objects. Tanner’s work is a celebration of beauty and remembrance, expressed through all that sparkles, shimmers, or flickers. Covering surfaces with materials that clash, crash, and finally cohere, creating a glamorous order out of chaos. This process embodies layers of meaning: The magnificence of a powerful feminine, cascading, dream-like impulses of shame, desire, ecstasy, defiant optimism in dark times. Tanner’s visual art and storytelling can be seen here: https://www.instagram.com/christannerart/

Three Wednesdays a month, New York City people headed to Black Rock City gather for the longest running weekly burner event in the world. As the event looms closer, the Happy Hours get bigger. With only a month to go, everyone is in full on panic mode, gathering up costumes and camping gear and packing their bins to ship out on the Container. Tonight is our annual Costume Swap & Sale so people can grab last minute pieces or complete ensembles.

Bring your gently worn whatevers to sell or swap. Pick up a fuzzy coat or a pair of goggles, drop off extra blinkies or space boots. Make Music New York

Join us for the bi-annual solstice celebration of music in the streets! We're still working on the line-up, with live performers alternating between in front of Lucky and in front of Hekate!

The schedule thus far:

Hekate 5-6: Outer Shapes
Lucky 6-7: Richard Thorne
Hekate 7-8: Old Father Eternity

Old Father Eternity is the experimental folk outlet of singer-songwriter/instrumentalist Emma Steen. The band blends Steen’s love of folk revivalist material, protest songs, and madrigals with her conservatory-honed indie-rock sensibilities. Old Father Eternity is also an ongoing experiment in ethnomusicology, as much of their music has its roots in Celtic and Appalachian folk. Between indie-flavoured originals, harmonium pieces, and rousing, half-improvised renditions of traditional songs, Steen’s sound is timeless and forward-looking all at once.
oldfathereternity.com

Sapphic duo Outer Shapes is creating genre-bending music stacked with thick bass, insightful lyricism and floaty guitars, guiding listeners into a new world of sound. They pride themselves in being completely independent, live looping during shows, producing all their music on our own, and even making all their cover art.

Stay tuned for additions!

Burning Man Happy Hour - Coyote Reading & Book Signing

Tony “Coyote” Perez-Banuet has been coming to the desert to build and strike Black Rock City since 1996. A professional musician for over twenty years, Burning Man culture was an easy shift for him. He co-founded the Department of Public Works of BRC in 1998 and has been the City Superintendent ever since. Known as the “Bard of the Desert,” telling stories around the campfire is among the things he does best. He has been blogging under the moniker of “Coyote Nose” for many years, and he is Burning Man’s first Storytelling Fellow.

Tonight Coyote will be with us, reading stories from his book Built to Burn: Tales of the Desert Carnies of Burning Man. We may need to bring in a burn barrel! Buy yourself a copy and have him sign it for you. This is sure to be an extremely special evening, as Tony was Abby's boss when she worked for Burning Man. The Jameson will be flowing, DPW lore will be shared, hearty laughter is sure to ensue!

You can expect the usual NYCBMHH situation: Happy Hour prices all evening long for the dusty ones, familiar faces as well as new friends, Zero behind the bar and information for all starry-eye "burner curious" newcomers. Join us!
